Fittleworth’s Discreet, Reliable and Convenient Home Delivery since 1984
Fittleworth was founded in 1984 by Jaqueline and Alan Seymour. Right from the beginning the company was an innovator in the home delivery of stoma products. In the eighties, stoma flanges were not customised or cut to size in any way before being sent out. Rather than leaving this to the customer, many of whom find using small, sharp scissors difficult, Jaqueline and Alan Seymour decided it would be a valuable and unique service to pre-cut each pouch before delivery. This innovation helped launch the company off to a flying start when the doors of the Seymour’s garage in the picturesque West Sussex village of Fittleworth opened and the first orders were dispatched.
Alan and Jaqueline decided from the outset that Fittleworth would be a company that really did put the needs of the customer above all else. In addition to being one of the first to cut pouches, they also made sure that deliveries were prompt, discreet and reliable and there was always a large stock available, supplied without bias to any particular manufacturer. This founding principle remains true all these years later.
In 1994 the company moved to Ford in West Sussex as a result of its significant growth. Although Fittleworth was larger, the small team of staff were as dedicated and now needed to be multi skilled – taking orders, picking and cutting.
Following further moves within Ford due to rapid expansion, Fittleworth finally settled on an industrial estate which formed part of the old WWII airfield. However, shortly after moving into these new premises, every one was evacuated by police as an unexploded wartime bomb had been found during building works!
A number of additional dispensing licences were acquired and soon Fittleworth had 5 Care Centres across the country. In 2003 the company merged with Thames Valley Medical and inherited several more including those based in Reading and Glasgow and in the following year, the company began offering continence appliances as well as the stoma service.
In 2005 Homecare, a delivery company in Keighley, West Yorkshire, was brought into the Fittleworth family.
Today, Fittleworth is still based in West Sussex and has a new state of the art Care Centre in Rustington, as well as having over 30 other Care Centre locations across the UK from Edinburgh to Plymouth. This enables us to provide a national distribution service using local delivery drivers rather than couriers for the majority of our customers.
Fittleworth still operates on the ethos with which it was founded and we pride ourselves on offering a first class service. It is so important to us that our deliveries are prompt, discreet and reliable and so customer service always comes first. This is achieved through practical innovations such as our samples service, our website information and ordering facility and our unique UK membership of the World Assist Alliance.
